League of Humane Voters of New Jersey Election Info and Endorsements
2011
Politicians take issues seriously when voters do. YOUR VOTE MATTERS!
2011 Scorecard
Each
LOHV-NJ endorsed candidate was graded according to his or her voting record
or recent political assurances. Generally, we do not endorse candidates
unless they have GOOD, GREAT, or EXCELLENT voting records.
If hunting issues are
important to you, please go to the bottom to see the list of incumbent
legislators who are members of the New Jersey Angling & Hunting Conservation
Caucus. LOHV-NJ does not endorse any legislator who is a member of the
caucus. A few of the members are adept at introducing non-controversial
companion animal bills precisely to divide the humane voting bloc. LOHV-NJ
does not play that game.
If you need to locate your Legislative District, please
search for your town within this Acrobat Reader
FILE. Please note that this list was provided by the
state and may not contain every town.

ENDORSEMENT: Essex County
Freeholder-At-Large: Marilynn English (I)http://www.wethepeopleofessex.com/
-
DEFEATED
From Marilynn: I understand how frustrating it is
to you and your neighbors, seeing continued deterioration of core
services in spite of seemingly endless increases in taxes. As an
example of how I started to become aware of our County's situation,
in September 2008, I first began investigating the money spent on
the deer hunt in South Mountain Reservation, and subsequent hunts in
Eagle Rock and Hilltop Reservations. We've been told incorrectly
that these hunts did not cost the taxpayers anything. I have
obtained hundreds of records via the Open Public Records Act, and
found that money could have been saved by spaying/neutering and/or
inoculating these animals.

continue to take animal protection very seriously, and support all
efforts to prevent exploitation or harm to domestic pets, as well as
wildlife." - Amy Mallett

-
he would support a Township program and/or ordinance that
endorses TNR as it has "worked in other towns and has proven
results"

"not solve the problem and are cruel and inhumane"

Mayor Bettina
Bieri running for re-election. (D) -

working volunteer for the all-volunteer municipal animal shelter in
our community for 18 years, and is currently serving as Health
Officer responsible for the health and well-being of all domestic
and wild animals that arrive at the facililty. About 17 years ago
she was successful in having the NJ Statutes amended to eliminate
inhumane euthanasia methods that were employed at that time because
they were not specifically precluded by law. She was also
instrumental in passing a TNR ordinance in town. She is a Bear Group
supporter and a member of Sustainable West Milford as well as the
Pequannock River Coalition. She supports the goals of the Highlands
Act and believes that we need to take measures as a society to
