"The Green Party believes that the mark of a humane and
civilized society lies in how we treat the least protected
among us. To extend rights to other sentient, living beings
is our responsibility and a mark of our place among all of
creation."
"We find cruelty to animals to be repugnant and criminal.
Animal protection requires laws and enforcement. If elected,
I will work hard for the enactment of animal-friendly
legislation."

"I have always been a strong advocate for the protection of
animals. As a society, we need to be cognizant of the way

"One byproduct of the current economic downturn is that more
companion animals are being abandoned and abused. My law
which allows trained Animal Control Officers to arrest when
they abuse is helping to combat this problem. We all can
help by reporting abuse and by reaching out to those in
financial trouble so that homes can be found for these
animals before they are abandoned."
Assemblywoman Charlotte Vandervalk
